A mentoring ministry for the women of Harvest

"Teach the older women to live in a way that is appropriate for someone serving the Lord. . . . These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to take care of their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God." (Titus 2:3–5 NLT)

Q: What is Mentoring Matters?

Mentoring Matters is a new ministry at Harvest designed to encourage and train wives and moms in their high calling, which is to honor God's Word in their hearts and homes by loving their husbands and children, and by creating a loving environment where the family can thrive.

Based upon the principles laid out in Titus 2, the older women in the body of Christ are instructed to promote and model by example the kind of living that reflects God's presence in the home. You will have the blessing of being part of a small intimate group of women who, like you, want to be nurtured and encouraged as you apply solid scriptural principles and sound practical solutions to everyday life.

Q: What is required of me?

You will complete a short homework lesson each week, and then meet in a home to share your answers with a group of no more than six other ladies. Your mentor will also lead a time of looking at other aspects of the topic you are covering that week in an insightful and engaging way. You will not only grow in your understanding of these biblical truths, but you will also make new friends and enjoy the fellowship of other Christian women.

Q: How long is my commitment?

Mentoring Matters is an eight-week cycle with topics that include:

Week 1—Get Acquainted/What Is Mentoring Matters?
Week 2—Honoring God’s Word
Week 3—Loving your husband
Week 4—Loving your children
Week 5—Keepers of the home (cooking, housecleaning, laundry, etc)
Week 6—Stewardship (resources, time, energy, own health)
Week 7—Inner person of the heart (attributes of a godly woman)
Week 8—Koinonia: Celebrating What God Has Done

Q: How do I enroll?

You may sign up by filling out the application form located on the Patio or in the Church Office during enrollment periods. You will then be placed in a group and your mentor leader will contact you by phone.

What has been the feedback to this new ministry?

When our mentors were asked to share what their women saw as highlights and insights during this first 8-week session, the feedback included:

"It was good for me to be brought back to basics in the presence of these other gals who are so zealous for the Lord and His Word."

"The chapters on Honoring God's Word, and the Inner Person of the Heart were probably the most mentioned by the ladies, although all of the other chapters did get mentioned as well. The chapter on Loving Your Husband was significant to a single girl, and the chapter on Loving your Children was significant to a childless woman; so obviously everything was pertinent as the Lord led..."

"One young lady who is single commented on how she feels more prepared to know if a future man will be the one God has chosen for her. She shared that she wasn't all that prepared to be married. She was thankful for the teachings on both the godly wife and mother section."

"The highlights from the ladies included learning humility, especially with being submissive and helpful and encouraging to their husbands. Realizing that life wasn't all about them and their wants and needs was another insight. Realizing that all they possessed including their children are all on loan from God and to treat them accordingly was another."
