chalkboard mug

When I first got married, many people blessed us with a plethora of mugs—some with ugly logos on them. This craft is a great way to unify your mismatched mugs and it creates a unique place to write a note to your loved one.

  • A coffee mug
  • Sandpaper
  • Painter’s tape
  • Plastic grocery bag
  • Rust-Oleum chalkboard spray paint
  • Rubber gloves (optional)

  1. Tape around the area you would like to spray paint. You can get creative here and make shapes, stripes, or use stencils.  (I just did a horizontal stripe around the mug to cover up the logo.)
  2. Lightly sand the surface that you plan to spray-paint.
  3. Stuff the inside of your mug with a plastic grocery bag to prevent overspray.
  4. In an open area, spray back and forth over the area and turn your mug. Let dry for 12–24 hours.
  5. Write a sweet saying to your loved one when you bring them breakfast in the morning.

Awesome! Is it easy to clean these after you use them. Either way they are super cute and I love the fact that they unify mismatched mugs. I have a million mugs, so this helps!

You handwash it. Priming the cup first with the sandpaper before applying the chalk paitn allows it to adhere better. But generally, handwashing is best.

What a great idea for kids to do too!

This is a great idea. I am always looking for new and unique gift ideas and this is one of them. Thank you and have a blessed Christmas!!!!!!!!!

Great idea, but how will we wash it as sandpaper will get wet? And will we be able to rub the previous message off and then write on it again on the same sandpaper?
