Anaheim OutreachHARVEST CRUDADES WITH GREG LAURIE
CELEBRATE 15 YEARS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WITH
EXTREME SPORTS, FAITH, JULY 10
RIVERSIDE, Calif., June 4, 2004 — Spectators can expect a helping of gravity-defying board and bike stunts and the rumbling of revving motors when Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie return to Southern California for its 15th year, July 10 at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium. This year, the popular crusade event, called the Southern California Harvest, will be serving up Extreme sports like BMX and Vert Skate along with its trademark blend of hip music and straightforward faith.
Originally designed as a launch event for the now-postponed Billy Graham Crusade in Pasadena, the Southern California Harvest will continue to serve as an evangelistic outreach to the community, celebrating its 15th year of crusade events in the Southland. The day-long Southern California Harvest will feature the return of the popular Summerfest youth festival and an evening “A Night of Worship” program. Both events will be held inside Angel Stadium.
Harvest Crusades, known for presenting traditional Christian beliefs in a culturally relevant way, drawing on unconventional methods like current events, ultra-hip Christian music, Extreme sports, and Internet technology, has drawn more than 3 million people to stadiums and arenas in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand since 1990. Each Harvest Crusade event features a message from Riverside, Calif. pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie.
The Southern California Harvest will combine “best of” elements from previous Harvest Crusade programs:
Summerfest , July 10, 2 – 5:30 p.m. at Angel Stadium
Pushing the limits of traditional crusade events, the second-annual Summerfest will feature Extreme sports like BMX and Vert Skate, a SportsZone and KidsZone, and pro athletes Jimmie McGuire (Motocross), Dave Demangos (Motocross), Thad Miller (BMX), Lance Mountain (skate), and Chad Kagy (BMX). Summerfest music will feature Tree 63, Skillet, The Elms, and By the Tree.
“A Night of Worship,” July 10, 7 p.m. at Angel Stadium
The evening “A Night of Worship” program will feature a message from Greg Laurie, and music from U.K.-based worship leader Matt Redman, Dove Award-winner Fernando Ortega, and singer-songwriter Tommy Walker. In addition, a 1000-voice community choir will perform.
Greg Laurie, who founded the evangelistic Harvest Crusade events in 1990, also serves as senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., one of the 15 largest churches in the U.S. In addition to the Southern California Harvest, Harvest will host a crusade event in Honolulu, Hawaii, June 24 – 27.
The Southern California Harvest is free of charge, and all events will take place inside Angel Stadium. “A Night of Worship” program will be broadcast live on the Internet (www.harvest.org) and will be interpreted and translated into Spanish, Korean, Arabic, Vietnamese, and sign language.
