They’re plastered on skateboards, car bumpers and even on the notebooks of business people rushing to their next meeting. Hunter Harvest bumper stickers and mini-stickers are providing flashes of colour just about everywhere you look these days in Newcastle, the Hunter and Central Coast.
With more than 80% of local churches of various denominations participating in next month’s Hunter Harvest, church unity and community spirit seems to be at an all-time high.
The Hunter Harvest is the fourth stop on an international tour by Harvest Ministries USA with Greg Laurie, a Southern California-based evangelistic organisation that has drawn more than 2.9-million people to Harvest events in the US and Australia to date. Greg Laurie, pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California (the eighth largest church in the US), co-founded the Harvest events in 1990.
Featuring the latest Christian alternative and rock music and a culturally relevant message of faith, Harvest with Greg Laurie will make its first ever visit to the Hunter Region with a four-night evangelistic outreach at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, September 11 – 14. Harvest made its Australia debut in 2000 with an event at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre, Wollongong.
Dubbed ‘the evangelical festival that revolutionised the old fashioned revival meetings with its mix of scriptures and pop culture’ (Los Angeles Times August 27, 1998), Greg Laurie’s Harvest events attract a broad audience and particularly appeal to the young and young-at-heart. The Hunter Harvest will feature music by Crystal Lewis, Switchfoot, Hillsong, Steve Grace, The Lads, a 150 voice choir and the Hunter Harvest Band.
