Hawaii News ReleaseHARVEST CRUSADES WITH GREG LAURIE LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL TOUR IN OAHU AND MAUI, JULY 19 - 20
Harvest Crusades Brings Hip Music and Straightforward Message of Faith to Hawaiian Islands for Sixth Time Since 1991
RIVERSIDE, Calif., June 9, 2003—Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie will bring its unique blend of hip music and straightforward message of faith to the Hawaiian Islands in July as it launches its five-city 2003 season with a pair of events in Oahu and Maui, before continuing on to California, Australia, and New Zealand. On Saturday, July 19, Harvest will return to Honolulu for the sixth time since 1991 with a one-night event at the Waikiki Shell, and will make its inaugural visit to Maui with a one-night event at the Lahaina Civic Center Amphitheater on Sunday, July 20.
Featuring the latest Christian alternative and rock music combined with a culturally-relevant message of faith, Laurie’s Harvest Crusades attract a broad audience, and particularly appeal to the young and young-at-heart. During the Hawaii crusade events, Laurie will speak on “Peace in a Chaotic World,” talking about the impact of faith in the midst of the events that have shaped our country and our world over the past few years. Both Hawaii crusade events will feature music by Switchfoot and Crystal Lewis, while local band 7 Simple Pieces will perform at Harvest at the Shell and Oahu-based band Olivia will perform at Harvest Maui.
The Harvest Hawaii events are being coordinated by local committees on Oahu and Maui, comprised of pastors from some 31 churches from a wide array of denominations. “There is a lot of excitement about the Harvest Crusades returning to the Hawaiian Islands,” said Rick Lazor, pastor of Nu’uanu Baptist Church, Honolulu. “The music and the message presented at the Harvest events are always communicated with excellence, making a life-changing impact, and we encourage people to invite their friends, families, and neighbors to attend.”
Greg Laurie, pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif. (the eighth largest church in the U.S.), founded the evangelistic, Southern California-based Harvest Crusades in 1990. Dubbed a “bang-up, new fashioned revival,” (The Orange County Register, July, 2001), the Harvest Crusades have drawn more than 2.8 million people to stadiums and arenas across the U.S. and Australia.
