Greater Wellington Harvest 07 Release
"Greater Wellington Harvest 2007" with Greg Laurie
to visit TSB Bank Arena, 26–28 October
More than 90 Local Churches Join Together to Host Community-Wide
Outreach Featuring Faith-Filled Message and Popular Music
RIVERSIDE, Calif., 26 Sept. 2007—Working together cross-denominationally to host a community-wide evangelistic outreach in the Wellington area, some 90 local churches are joining together to finalize plans for the upcoming Greater Wellington Harvest 2007. The Greater Wellington Harvest 2007 will take place at the TSB Bank Arena (formerly the Queen Wharf Events Centre), 26 – 28 October, and will feature a straightforward message about faith from Southern California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie, along with the very latest music from popular Christian artists.
Harvest with Greg Laurie has visited New Zealand in past years, bringing outreach events to Auckland and Christchurch, but the Greater Wellington Harvest will be the first large-scale evangelistic event in the region in more than twenty years. The Greater Wellington Harvest has been months in the making, joining local congregations together in a common goal to bring a message of hope to the Wellington community. Preparation for the three-night event has been an undertaking of great proportions, with more than 150,000 event invitations and 6,000 bumper stickers being distributed, and more than 1,000 volunteers lending their time to assist before and during the event.
"It is awesome to see the churches of the Wellington region join together to impact our city," said Nick Field, pastor of The Street City Church. "There is a rising level of partnership being exhibited between churches throughout the area as we seek to impact our communities with the message of the God's love."
The evangelistic Harvest with Greg Laurie events, which have drawn more than 3.5 million people to stadiums and arenas around the world since 1990, are known for relating to audiences through contemporary means like top notch music, live Internet webcasts and hosted video podcasts. But the crux of each event is the nightly message presented by Greg Laurie. Called the "evangelist of the future" by Billy Graham, Laurie draws on Scripture, flavored with personal and cultural examples, to describe the relevance of faith in today's world. Laurie's talks encompass topics that appeal to people of any age and answer questions like: Why am I here? Is God real? What happens when I die?
In addition to nightly talks from Laurie, each evening of the Greater Wellington Harvest program will feature some of Christian music's most popular artists, including the Katinas, Newsboys, Parachute Band, and Crystal Lewis. The Harvest event will also include a Saturday evening event called Amplify, designed especially for teens and young adults.
