SOME 60 HAMILTON-AREA CHURCHES TO HOST ONE-NIGHT EVANGELISTIC "HARVEST OUTREACH WITH GREG LAURIE," NOVEMBER 22, 2005
November Outreach to Serve as Launch Event for Multi-Night
"Greg Laurie Greater Hamilton Harvest" Event in 2006
RIVERSIDE, Calif., Nov. 2, 2005—Working together in an unprecedented way, some 60 Hamilton-area churches from a variety of denominations will host a one-night evangelistic outreach on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton Place Theater. The evening outreach, featuring Southern California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie and Christian musical artists The Katinas, will serve as the launch event for a year-long campaign to host a multi-night event called the Greg Laurie Greater Hamilton Harvest at Copps Coliseum in 2006.
Since 1990, Greg Laurie's large-scale evangelistic Harvest events have drawn more than
3.3 million people to stadiums and arenas around the world. Hamilton residents may be familiar with Laurie through the airing of his daily radio programme called "A New Beginning," which can be heard daily on JOY 1250 and WDCX-FM.
Heading the committee to bring the November Harvest outreach and the 2006 Greg Laurie Greater Hamilton Harvest events to the area, Pastor Ralph Mills of Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Hamilton said, "It's so exciting to see churches across the community join together in anticipation of the Harvest events. Greg Laurie is one of the most phenomenal communicators I have heard, and people's lives will be changed by the message of the Gospel he shares in Hamilton."
The November Harvest outreach evening will feature a straightforward talk about faith from Laurie and music from award-winning musical group The Katinas—an energetic band comprised of five brothers from American Samoa. In addition, Ron Mainse, host of Canada's 100 Huntley Street television program, will participate in the outreach. The outreach is open to the community and free of charge; Hamilton Place Theater charges $4.25 CD for parking.
Called the "evangelist of the future" by Billy Graham, Laurie draws on contemporary means to describe the relevance of faith in today's world at each Harvest event. Laurie's talks encompass topics that appeal to people of any age and answer questions like: Why am I here? Is God real? What happens when I die?
Laurie, who founded the evangelistic Harvest Crusade events in 1990, also serves as senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., one of the 15 largest churches in the U.S. Laurie's television program, Harvest: Greg Laurie is the top rated program in its timeslot on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles.
In addition to the Hamilton outreach, Harvest has hosted 2005 events in Augusta, Ga.; Athens, Ga.; Santa Monica, Calif.; Anaheim, Calif.; Newcastle, Australia; and Christchurch, New Zealand.
