Kicking off the first of two Harvest Crusade events scheduled in Southern California this summer, Harvest with Greg Laurie will host a two-night evangelistic outreach at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium this weekend, June 3 – 4 (www.harvest.org). Co-sponsored by KKLA-FM radio (99.5 FM), Harvest Santa Monica will mark the first time a Harvest Crusade has been hosted in the Santa Monica area. Harvest will also host its annual Southern California Harvest at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, July 15 – 17.
Since 1990, the Harvest events have drawn nearly 2 million people throughout Southern California for what may be the longest-running annual evangelistic outreach in modern history. Called "a formidable, flexible event that has stayed in step with the latest trends in communication, music and current events" (The Orange County Register, July 10, 2004), the Harvest Crusades are known for presenting traditional Christian beliefs through culture-current, unconventional methods like top music and technology, and a relevant message about faith delivered by Riverside, Calif. pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie.
Staying true to form and message, Harvest Santa Monica will feature a nightly talk from Laurie about some of life's big questions like: Why am I here? Is God real? What happens when I die? Featured musicians at Harvest Santa Monica will include Fernando Ortega on Friday evening and Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay on Saturday evening.
Greg Laurie, who founded the evangelistic Harvest Crusade events in 1990, also serves as senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., one of the 15 largest churches in the U.S. Laurie's television program, Harvest: Greg Laurie is the top rated program in its timeslot on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles.
Harvest Santa Monica begins at 7:30 p.m. each evening, and is free of charge. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium charges $8 for parking. For more information, log onto www.harvest.org.
In addition to 2005 events held in Athens, Ga., Augusta, Ga., Santa Monica, Calif., and Anaheim (July 15 – 17), Harvest will visit Newcastle, NSW, Australia (Sept. 8–11).
