Musician Bios: Greater Wellington Harvest 2007

KATINAS:

Known as the Katinas, Samoa-born brothers Sam, Joe, Jesse, John, and James have been singing together since birth, encouraged by their musician father. Showcasing tight vocal harmonies and mastery of a myriad of instruments, the Katinas offer a smooth sound that spans genres including Motown, urban hip-hop, neo-soul, and islands-influenced pop. Winners of one Dove Award and two ASCAP Awards, the Katinas released their latest album, My Samoa, in 2006.

newsboys:

Over the past 20 years, the Nashville-based, Australian-raised quintet, Newsboys, has become one of Christian pop's most solidly accomplished ensembles, selling nearly three million records, earning four Grammy nominations, five gold records, five Dove awards, and numerous other accolades. Their blend of polished, energetic song-craft and resonant lyrical themes have resulted in meaningful music that engages the ears and the soul. In 2007, Newsboys released GO, their first pop record in four years.

Parachute Band:

In 1996, The Parachute Band was born: a collective of musicians gathered for the purpose of leading worship for New Zealand's Parachute Music Festival. As the festival experienced exponential popularity over the years, the Parachute Band found itself facing significant success of its own. Over the next decade, the group garnered a reputation as a leading international worship voice, and released seven albums, six of which were certified gold in New Zealand. In 2005, the Parachute Band signed with U.S. based label Integrity Music, broadening their worldwide distribution. That same year, they released their album All the Earth and also won the Gospel Music Association's 'International Award'.

The Parachute Band released their newest album, Roadmaps and Revelations, in 2007.

Crystal Lewis:

Vibrant and compelling, Crystal Lewis wraps giant vocals with youthful innocence. She began her music career at the age of 15, and her distinctive voice and R&B style has left its mark on contemporary Christian music. Her solo career, which began in 1987, has established her as a gifted writer and a bold soloist. After the success of such albums as Beauty for Ashes and Gold, Crystal released her latest studio recordings, See (with both a Spanish and English version) in 2005, and a children’s album, Joyful Noise, in 2006.
