Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
We were all created to worship. And when you get down to it, everyone on the face of the earth worships. We don't all worship the God of heaven, but we all worship someone or some thing. It may be a sports figure. It may be an entertainer, an actor or actress, or a musician. It may be some other person. It may be a possession. It may be your own body. But everyone bows at some kind of an altar. Everyone, everywhere worships. It's a fundamental drive of life.
Even atheists worship. Skeptics worship. Insurance agents, lawyers, and even politicians worship. All people worship, and this is one of those unique distinctions of humanity. This is one of the distinguishing marks of human beings as compared to animals.
Animals do not worship. They don't have that drive within them. My dog doesn't sit out in the backyard and bark out His praises. As he sits out there, I can guarantee that he isn't contemplating the wonders of eternity. He is probably thinking about food and when his next meal is coming.
In contrast to the animal kingdom, God has placed eternity in the heart of man (see Ecclesiastes 3:11). This simply means that God has placed in us, as people, the sense and the awareness that there is more. There is a drive to bow down to something, to pay homage to something, and to worship something.
So let's worship the true and living God.
