Temptation's Timing
"Behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it."
Without question, the devil focuses his attacks on those who are often young in the faith and those who are making a difference in the kingdom of God.
You probably remember that when you first put your faith in Christ, the enemy was there to attack you. Maybe the day after you had made that commitment to Christ, you started thinking, "Am I really forgiven by God? Has something really happened to me? Maybe I just psyched myself into this." Or maybe you remember some very strong temptations that came your way right after you became a Christian. Obviously, temptation has to be tempting, so the devil will offer you things that are attractive.
Jesus told the story of a sower who sowed his seed, and it fell by the roadside, where the birds came and ate it. He said, "These are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts" (Mark 4:15). This is why we should pray for new believers. The enemy will be there, trying to rob them of what God has done.
Then of course, the devil will attack those who are making a difference in the kingdom, those who are seeking to walk with God and reach others with the gospel. When believers step up and say, "Use me, Lord. I want my life to make a difference," they should brace themselves. The enemy will not take that sitting down. Expect opposition. It comes to those who are making a difference in the kingdom.
