What is Hickory NC?
"Bordered
by a 20-mile lake and nestled in the foothills of the
Blue Ridge mountains, Hickory was recently named by Reader's
Digest as one of the nation's 10 most livable cities.
The region's churches, mills, museums, colleges and traditions
reflect the influence of the first German, English and
Scottish-Irish immigrants who settled here in the late
18th century.
Adjacent to Interstate 40, Hickory forms the intersection
of North Carolina's Alexnder, Burke, Caldwell and Catawaba
countries. Collectively known as the Hickory metro, the
four contries make up the state's fourth largest metropolitan
statistical area.
The Hickory Metro is a collection of small towns with
courthouse squares for picniking, drugstore soda fountains
where big business decisions are sealed with a handshake,
and safe city streets are perfect for numerous festivals
and fairs.
Hickory is renowned for it's fine furniture as more than
60 percent of the nation's furniture is produced in this
area. Hickory is also an international hub for the hosiery
and fiber optics industries."
