Welcome to the 1998 Central Valley Harvest Crusade at Sunkist Stadium
in Visalia! Evangelist Greg Laurie will be giving an evangelistic
message tonight. It is our prayer that many people will respond
to the Gospel message tonight and give their lives to Jesus Christ.
The event will begin at 7:30 pm Pacific Daylight Time. We are just
minutes away from the event now. The event will begin with music.
The Harvest Crusade band will begin tonight with a time of worship.
Tonight's music will also include Dennis Agajanian and his band
and contemporary Christian band "The Kry." It is a beautiful
sunny day here in Visalia. The stadium is filling with people of
all ages.
Tomorrow night's event is called "The Harvest Jam." It
is geared towards the youth. We will have "Big Tent Revival,"
a popular contemporary Christian band. Again, we will have "The
Kry" joining in special music, plus Crystal Lewis and her band.
Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside,
California will again tomorrow night bring an evangelistic message.
It is our prayer that the hearts of the youth in the Central Valley
area will be touched by God's Word and would give their lives to
the Lord.
The stadium lights are now on. The seats on the field are filling
up.
Guitarist and vocalist Steve Grace from Australia is being interviewed
by Bryan St. Peters in the sports booth currently. Steve will be
sharing his musical gift with us here at the Harvest Crusade on
Monday night, Memorial Day, beginning at 6:00 pm. If you are interested
in more information about Steve Grace's ministry, contact us at
www.harvest.org and we will do our best to get that information
to you.
The Harvest Crusade Band is now on the stage, preparing to start
any minute. The group is led by Tommy Walker. They are beginning
right now. Tommy asked everyone to stand and they are now singing
"No Greater Love." The group is now singing "He's
Turned My Mourning Into Dancing."
People are continuing to arrive here at Sunkist Stadium in Visalia.
The chairs on the stadium field are full and the stadium bleachers
are filling up as well.
Tommy Walker is now teaching the crowd a new chorus to an old hymn,
"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee." Tommy is now singing
"Not Ashamed of the Gospel."
Pastor Bob Grenier of Calvary Chapel Visalia is welcoming everyone
to the Central Valley Harvest Crusade. He says that we are looking
forward to four great nights. Pastor Greg Laurie is now at the podium
and giving an opening statement. He states that he and Dennis Agajanian,
Dennis' son and another pastor from Laguna Beach, all rode their
Harley motorcycles up to Visalia from Southern California yesterday.
Pastor Greg is stating that he is here along with all of the musical
guests, to proclaim the simple Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Greg
introduces Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa to
open the evening in prayer.
Pastor Greg introduces Dennis Agajanian as the best "Harley
Ridin' Guitar Pickin' musician he knows. Dennis has everyone stand
up - he is teaching the crowd a song to sing with him, "One
Day at a Time." Dennis now sings "Long Road to Glory."
The sun is setting here in the Central Valley. Pastor Ricky Ryan
from Calvary Chapel of Santa Barbara is at the platform now. He
introduces one of the local pastors to pray for the offering.
John Carley, President of Internet Solutions is talking with Bryan
St. Peters in the audio booth right now, explaining about downloading
the audio and video for this crusade.
The Kry has performed and was a big hit with the crowd.
Now Pastor Greg is beginning his message. He is addressing those
who may have been invited here tonight who do not have a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. He is sharing from the Gospel of
Luke, Chapter 4. The title of his message tonight is "What
is the Meaning of Life?" He is sharing the story of "The
Rich Young Ruler." He states that this person was successful,
intelligent and yet looking for the real meaning of life. He equates
this person to many successful Hollywood characters of today - Richard
Drefuss and Dennis Rodman. So often these people seem to "have
it all," yet they are so empt inside. Greg states that everybody
worships something. Many people worship themselves - always checking
themselves out. They make their bodies their own God. Maybe you
live for pleasure - that's your God. Or you may be living for sexual
pleasure. Greg shares how Jesus shows the rich young ruler how he
has sinned and broken God's commandments. He shares how we, too,
have broken God's commandments. Jesus told the rich young ruler
to sell everything and to follow Him. The reason He told him to
give up everything was because his possessions possessed him. If
Jesus knocked on your door and wanted to come into your house, He
would want you give up anything that might stand in the way of your
relationship with Him. The only reason He throws out the old things
is to give you something better! He will take away loneliness, emptiness
to replace it with everlasting life, full of joy. He died for you.
You have a void in your life that only God can fill. Yes, He died
on the cross, but He rose again three days later and He is here
right now, waiting for you to receive eternal life. Here is what
you must do. You must realize you are a sinner. You must repent.
You must confess Him before people. You can't be neutral, it is
either yes or no. You must decide which side you are on. Some of
you may go to church every Sunday, but you have never made a commitment
to Jesus Christ. Everyone that Jesus called, He called openly and
publicly.
Several hundred people have streamed onto the field here at Sunkist
Stadium to give their lives to Jesus Christ. If you are watching
this broadcast from home and you don't have a personal relationship
to Jesus, you can give your life to Him right where you are. You
can pray and ask Him to come into your life right now. You can contact
us through e-mail and we will send you a New Believer's New Testament,
just like people will receive right here at Sunkist Stadium.
The evening has closed in prayer by a pastor from First Baptist
Church in Tulare, CA.
