A Message to Paris Jackson (And All Who Have Contemplated Suicide)

by Greg Laurie on Jun 7, 2013

A Brooklyn couple hosted a “self-help” radio show called “The Pursuit of Happiness.” On the show, the husband and wife offered callers advice on how to lead happier lives, encouraging them to think positively and trust their intuition. But apparently, they were the ones that needed help. They both just committed suicide together.

Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, tried to kill herself recently. She swallowed an entire bottle of Motrin, and also cut her wrists. Thankfully, she failed.

Before her suicide attempt, Paris Jackson reached out to her 1.1 million Twitter followers with a series of desperate messages, including a message quoting the Beatles:
“Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it looks as though they’re here to stay.”

This is all so terribly sad. How I wish that couple who committed suicide could have known there is a God who loves them and who offers the real happiness we all pursue.

Scripture says, “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord.” Happiness is not in what you have, but who you know.

And that “who” is Jesus Christ.

I pray that Paris Jackson will hear the Good News that Jesus loves her. And I pray that whatever pain she is facing, she would know that though her earthly father is gone, she has a Father in heaven who wants to give her life meaning and purpose.

Don’t take your life, but rather dedicate your life to Jesus Christ.
If you do that, you will find the happiness you desire and also have the hope of heaven.
