2006 Greater Silicon Valley Recap
Silicon Valley is one of the most ethnically diverse and technologically advanced regions in the country. It is also one of the most unchurched areas in the United States.
Pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie came to San Jose for the Greater Silicon Valley Harvest, a three-day event at the HP Pavilion from October 13–15. God truly blessed this event from beginning to end.
In all, 38,600 people came to the crusade, with 4,042 people making professions of faith. Saturday night's Amplify youth event drew 18,000 people to the venue, and another 1,000 people had to be turned away at the gate due to overcrowding.
In addition, more than 55,000 people have watched the live and archived webcasts of the event.
Attendees enjoyed music from some of the top artists in Christian music, including the newsboys, Salvador, Kutless, Seventh Day Slumber, Jeremy Camp, Chris Rice, Todd Agnew, and Crystal Lewis.
But the centerpiece of the weekend, and the reason for the Greater Silicon Valley Harvest, was the lifesaving message of the gospel. Greg Laurie brought a message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ, and the Lord blessed us with a wonderful response.
Here are just a few of the stories that came out of the crusade, as an example of the lives that were changed:
-
After losing his father, brother, and son a few years ago, Tony had started going to church but did not have a personal relationship with Jesus. On Sunday night, he responded to Pastor Greg's invitation and became a new creation in Christ.
-
Ken had been praying for his brother Keven for almost 10 years. He brought Keven to the crusade, and Keven went forward to commit his life to Christ.
-
A father brought his son to the crusade on Saturday night. The son had run away from home the night before, but returned the next day. After hearing the gospel, the son came forward and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
- A worker at the HP Pavilion felt the call of God to come forward, but couldn't because she was on the clock. She prayed for some way to respond, when a blind man near her asked if she could help him come down because his friends were nowhere to be seen. She got a chance to go down to the floor with him, and at the end of the night, she was able to pray with a decision follow-up worker and make a public profession of faith.
Those are just some of the thousands of people whose lives were changed in San Jose, but people have also used the live and archived webcasts as a tool to present the gospel to their friends, like Anastasia, who sent us this e-mail:
"This crusade was awesome! It helped me to minister to my friend Jasen, who didn't believe in God very much. After he was done watching it, we [chatted] and he's really close to accepting Jesus.
Thank you guys so much! Don't stop doing the Crusades!"
That's our desire, to continue preaching the gospel around the world, helping people to know God and make Him known. San Jose marked our final Harvest Crusades event of 2006, and we are already looking forward to another busy year in 2007 with stops in Raleigh, North Carolina; Wellington, New Zealand; and Anaheim, California.
