HARVEST 2000 - EDISON FIELD
ANAHEIM, CA
Friday, 18 August 2000
This is a text only page, designed to be quickly reloaded as the crusade evening progresses.
The Crowd gathers
5:55PM - The stadium doors have just opened for the Harvest Jam 2000 here at Edison Field in Anaheim, CA.
The seats are filling up rapidly. We are expecting a full house tonight, as "Harvest Jam" nights have always
been the best attended nights of the Harvest Crusade.
6:38PM - Stadium is nearly full and many are still arriving. Tonight's "Jam" guests will include ATS (All
Together Separate), Audio Adrenaline, Supertones, and Crystal Lewis.
7:15PM - The stadium is now absolutely full tocapacity.
Sing Praises to the Lord!
7:17PM - Pastor Joe Sabolick from CC Laguna Beach opens the evening in prayer. He introduces ATS. They open with
"Not By Power." What an awesome sight to see this crowd, everyone standing and singing along and clapping! ATS follows
with "Sweet Presence of Jesus." Next they encourage the crowd to join them in singing "My Soul Finds Rest in You Alone."
They close their set with "Paradigm."
7:35PM - The Supertones follow. They are dressed in orange and blue "firemen's" costumes. They begin with "Supertones
Strike Back." They follow with "Hallelujah." The crowd remains standing and sings along, "Hallelujah to the Lamb, Hallelujah
I am saved, with Christ we are bound to win." Amen to that! Next they perform song called "This is What it Comes To."
They encourage the crowd to sing along. This song is off their new album which comes out in October of this year.
Next they are joined by Crystal Lewis and together they sing "There's No Life"...away from Him. Everyone remains
standing and singing along, singing "There's no life away from you..." Supertones share from the stage about unity in the
body of Christ, as they begin their closing song called "Unite."
7:56PM - Ricky Ryan comes to the platform and announces that not only is this stadium completely full, but there are
5,000 people outside in the back parking lot watching on the Jumbo-tron screen. Pastor Ricky Ryan prays for tonight's
offering. Crystal Lewis comes to the stage to sing "One Man" as the offering is taken and video is seen on the screen
which shows how these gifts are used to offset the cost of evangelism through Harvest Crusades.
8:05PM - Video is being shown right now of Audio Adrenaline - a type of introduction video. They share on video how
kids today are getting farther and farther away from God's standards. As video is shown, the band members take their
places on the stage.
8:08PM - Ricky Ryan introduces Audio Adrenaline. They open with "Let My Love Open the Door." They follow with "Mighty
Good Leader." They follow with "Hands and Feet." Lyrics go something like "I wanna go where you send me and I'll try,
yes I'll try to touch the world the way you've touched my life...and I'll try to be your hands and be your feet..."
Next the Supertonse join them on the stage and together, they all perform "Blitz." Rapper "T-Bone" just joined them
on stage for the final part of "Blitz." Next Audio-A does their closing song "Get Down." Mark Stuart, lead singer,
goes out into the audience for this one!
8:30PM - Video is shown called "What is Happiness?" Then Crystal Lewis comes to the platform to sing "To God be the
Glory" to prepare the audience for the message tonight.
The Gospel is Preached
8:40PM - Pastor Greg comes to the podium and welcomes the crowd for tonight's message. The title of tonight's message
is "How to Be Happy." Message is taken from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 19. But first Pastor Greg announces that
"Jars of Clay will be here tomorrow night and for that, we will start at a special time, 6:30PM.
Pastor Greg shares how people will say that all kinds of different things would bring them happiness. Many people
will say that money would bring them happiness. He shares how so many are watching "Survivor" on TV these days, where
people are competing for a million dollars. He speaks of how a woman is never beautiful enough, cars are never fast
enough, relationships are never romantic enough, clothes are never fashionable enough, etc. No matter how much we
see, we are never satisfied. Life is never full enough. Pastor Greg shares about Solomon in the Bible, how he was
never satisfied.
Pastor Greg shares about an article from Psychology Today "On the road to Happiness." It said that "Compared to
1960, the America of today has doubled spending power. We also have twice as many cars per person, color TV's, VCR's,
microwaves, answering machines, computers, and 12 billion a year worth of brand name athletic shoes." But what
has this economic growth meant for morale? Over the same period, depression rates have soared. Teen suicde has
tripled. divoce rates have doubled. The violent crime rate has boomed. The accumulation of material goods is at
an all time high. But so is the number of people who feel an emptiness in their lives."
Pastor Greg says that the Bible tells the story of a rich young guy who had everything going his way in life. He
was incredibly wealthy, powerful, and even moral. But something was missing in his life. He had heard about
Jesus and thought he might have the answer he was looking for. He came to Jesus and asked "What good things must I
do to have eternal life?" Jesus replied "Why ask me about being good? Only God is good. But to answer your question,
you can receive eternal life if you keep the commandments." The man asked "Which ones?" Jesus replied, "Do not murder,
do not commit adultery, do not steal, Do not lie, honor your father and mother, love your neighbor as yourself." The
man replied that he had obeyed all these commandments and asked what else must I do?" Jesus told him, "If you want
to be perfect, go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then
come, follow Me." But when the young man heard this, he went sadly away because he had many possesions.
Pstor Greg shares about actor Jim Carrey has bouts with depression. Greg says that he had read an article that
stated that Jim Carrey had shared that a lot of comedians are really clowns crying on the inside.
Pastor Greg goes through several of the commandments of God and shares how we fail miserably at keeping these
commandments. He shares that yes, if we come to Christ, there will be things we'll need to give up, but that
God will give us so much more in return. He shares how that Rich Young Man in the Bible went away sad, because
he was empty. He shares that if you would give your life to Christ tonight, you will go away fulfilled. He shares
how we will never find happiness in any of the "things" of this earth. He sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to die
on the cross for our sins. There was no other way a holy God coul reach out to us. Jesus says "I stand at the door
and knock, and if you hear my voice, I will come in." You can find the meaning and purpose that you have wanted
for all of these years. If you reject it, you will go away sad like the rich young ruler in the Bible, you will
face God on Judgment Day and it will be too late.
The work of the Holy Spirit
Pastor Greg gives the invitation for people who don't know Christ to come down to the field to make a profession
of faith. He prays for the crowd here tonight. Hundreds of people are streaming onto the field. Pastor Greg still
encourages people in the stands to come down if they want Christ tonight. The outfield is filling up. Crystal
sings "Come Just as You Are" while people continue to come. Then ATS along with Hanz and the Crusade Band sing
"Now is the Time, Today is the Day." Now they sing "He Knows My Name," as more continue to come.
Pastor Greg prays with the hundreds on the field. He shares with them that there are counselors on the field to
share with them, encourage them in their new faith, and that each one will be given a "New Believer's New Testament."
If you are reading this text page update and want to also receive Christ in your life or make a recommitment, let us
know and we will send you the same materials given to each person on the field here tonight.
God Bless you and don't forget to tune in at 6:30PM tomorrow night for the closing night of "Harvest 2000." Besides
Jars of Clay, we will also have Crystal Lewis, the Harvest Crusade Band, Dennis Agajania and Paul Overstreet. Pastor
Greg will give another evangelistic message.
