MESSAGES
What happens when our hands touch an object? What do we leave behind? Fingerprints, right! What do fingerprints reveal? They reveal us, they identify us. They are a witness that we were there, and we cannot deny it.
Recently, I had the opportunity to officiate the funeral service for a gentleman who worked with the District Attorneys Office. He was a man who was very much loved by his fellow man, and who was very much appreciated for his expertise in the field of forensic science.
As the District Attorney and the Chief Investigator shared their thoughts about this person, they both told about how well he did his job at fingerprinting, and then putting a case together. In fact, many of the cases were won because of the work this man did.
Though the judge and jury were not at the crime scene at the time the crime took place, he made it very easy for them to see that the person was. How? By gathering up the fingerprints that were left behind. By examining and reading his fingerprints, they knew the person had been there. As a Christian, you not only leave behind your physical fingerprints wherever you go, but you also leave behind your spiritual fingerprints.
Paul said to the church at Corinth, "You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men" (2 Corinthians 3:2). The Phillips translation reads, "You yourselves are our testimonial, written in our hearts and yet open for anyone to inspect and read." Paul was saying that the changed lives of the Corinthians was like an open letter that could be seen and read by all men. Wherever they went, whatever they did, whatever they said, they always left their spiritual fingerprints behind to be known and read by others.
Just as Jesus was a witness for the Father, He has called you and I, as His children, to be a witness for Him, "...you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8). A witness is one who tells the truth about another. You and I are to always tell the truth about Jesus Christ, no matter what the cost. Sadly, there are many false witnesses who try to appear as if they're being truthful, but their fingerprints give them away.
We are a witness by what we say, and by what we do. The Bible says we're to, "…be doers of the Word and not hearers only deceiving ourselves…" (James 1:25). Our talk and our walk are to always be going in the same direction.
As a Christian we are a witness for the Lord to everyone we encounter in life. No matter where we are, we are to be His witness! It doesn't matter whether we're driving a black and white, wiping down an engine at the firehouse, at home with our family, or in a Bible study at church. Our lives are an open book for all the world to see, constantly being known and read by all men.
What's your witness like today? What kind of fingerprints have you been leaving behind? If one were to gather your fingerprints, how would they identify you? Would they know that a Christian had been there?
God bless you,
Pastor Steve |
