Chapter Two: Let Us Rise Up and Build |
| |
(continued from Chapter Two homepage)
For the past five years we have been quietly working behind the scenes to acquire the necessary property for the proposed expansion. That is now accomplished. It's time to pray. For the next six months, I will be asking people who attend Harvest to join with me in what we are calling "Chapter Two: Let Us Rise Up and Build." It is a reference to Acts chapter 2, which has been our model for ministry. It is also a reference to Nehemiah chapter 2, which depicts how the children of Israel rebuilt the broken-down walls of Jerusalem. The name also implies that there is a second chapter for Harvest's ministry.
More than ever, I feel called to continue in my role as the pastor-teacher here at Harvest. I am also grateful for the many opportunities we have to reach out with the gospel through crusades and media like radio, television, and the Internet. Above all, I am keenly aware that without God's help and without the support of my church family here at Harvest Christian Fellowship, none of it would be possible. Chapter Two includes the building of new facilities, debt reduction, and ministry expansion, but for me, it really means these things:
- Chapter Two will expand our capacity to reach more people in the Inland Empire and beyond.
- It will open up greater opportunity for studying God's Word and making disciples.
- It will give us opportunity to train a new generation of leaders who will take the gospel to their own Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world.
- It will enable us to bring the gospel to more people via larger crusades in this nation and overseas.
- It will enable us to capture the new media technologies and imprint them with the gospel . . .
The apostle Paul looked at his life and his world and said, "Forgetting those things which are behind . . . I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14 NKJV).
That is exactly how I feel. While extremely grateful for all God has done, we do not want to rest on our laurels or live in our past. There are new opportunities to touch more lives with the life-changing message of the gospel.
As Billy Graham once said, "The Evangelistic Harvest is always urgent. The destiny of men and of nations is always being decided. Every generation is strategic. We are not responsible for the past generation, and we cannot bear full responsibility for the next one; but we do have our generation. God will hold us responsible as to how well we fulfill our responsibilities to this age and take advantage of our opportunities."
This newsletter is all about those opportunities. I ask that you read it carefully and pray earnestly over its contents. When you have, it's my hope you will join me for an exciting venture into Chapter Two! |
