Community Groups 8/11/13

Community Groups Discussion Questions based on the previous Sunday morning message.

Group Questions

1.) Pastor Greg emphatically stated that if God could bring revival in Nineveh, He
could certainly bring it in our own nation today. But what are some reasons why we
so easily doubt the power of God to save the “un-savable”? How does the grace of
God in saving sinners help change our perspective?

2.) Once Jonah had preached to Nineveh we read of an immediate response of
repentance and falling upon God’s mercy (Jonah 3:5-9). Shockingly, Jonah is
upset that God spares the people! What caused his anger and racism? Now
consider how you would respond if Christ were to save your “enemies.”

3.) In chapter 4, Jonah is spiritually and physically distraught when God causes
the worm to eat the tree providing him shade. Pastor Greg likens this to our own
desire for comfort versus seeking to bring the lost to Christ. What are some
practical ways you can apply this to your regular week (i.e. stepping out of your
comfort zone to share the gospel)?

4.) The book ends with a question posed by God, “And should I not pity that great
city?” (Jonah 4:11). Meditate on God’s mercy for you. Think about the grace of
God shown to you every day because of what Jesus has accomplished on the
cross. Now, should not that same love and salvation be offered to your neighbors,
family, and coworkers?

Group Prayer

Pray about areas of your life where you have sought some kind of personal
comfort over sharing the gospel with someone and confess that to the Lord

Remember the gospel! You are saved and forgiven by God because of Christ.
You’re a new creation. You’re a witness to what God is doing for sinners.
Evangelism is a part of your new identity

Ask the Lord to empower you with the Holy Spirit so that you might boldly and
lovingly share the gospel this week and let your life be a testimony to God’s
grace to save even the modern day “Ninevites.”

**Leader’s side note: Your role isn’t to teach or preach, but to facilitate the group discussion. Pray privately for your group and leadership this week**
